The Ventura Film Festival operates as a diverse genre worldwide film festival that cultivates understanding of environmental challenges including forest and ocean preservation and restoration, via a yearly film showcase and corresponding activities. The festival utilizes the power of cinema to encourage participation and foster important conversations about these critical conservation concerns.

The Ventura Film Festival was founded in 2004 and has presented countless films, generally exceeding 200 films per summer season, and has drawn recognition from the global cinema community. Since its inception, the festival has evolved into a major cultural celebration that joins filmmakers, environmental advocates, and audiences from across the globe.

Distinguished events have encompassed showcasing renowned filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the initial world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend along with Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/mixed martial arts fighter the celebrated Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which included hosting the FILM FESTIVAL IN VENTURA COUNTY complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, including Academy Award winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris along with Golden Globe recipient/Oscar nominee Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival creator and executive director was selected to take part, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story and Hollywood's iconic footprint/handprint ceremony celebrating Oscar honorees Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe award winner Russ Tamblyn at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This ceremony also acted as the official BluRay debut by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is widely considered by critics and fans to be the greatest musical of all time. This notable recognition and engagement demonstrates the festival's significant influence and respected position within the entertainment industry.
